A snowman.
A toothbrush.
An exercise bike.
A goldfish.
A calculator.
A combination lock.
A dictionary.
A volleyball.
An orchard.
A piano.
Monkeybars.
A zipper.
Bagpipes.
A CD.
Fingernail clippers.
A picture frame.
A beluga whale.
A toaster.
Okay, ready? Here is your challenge. Pick 2 of the above. You may not pick the same pair someone else has picked, but you may choose one that's been chosen, just not the same combination.
Now, tell us what you have chosen, and then list 5-10 things that those two things have in common. If you are feeling particularly clever, you may also list one or two (or more!) important differences.
Okay, got your thinking cap on?
Go!

Snowmen and beluga whales
Similarities:
They're both white.
They're both fat.
They both wear happy expressions, even if they're not necessarily happy.
They both need some form of water to survive.
They both live in cold places.
Differences:
Beluga whales are loud; snowmen are quiet.
Beluga whales are mammals; snowmen are...something else.
Beluga whales generally live for many years; snowmen generally live for a few days or weeks (at least around here).
A toothbrush and fingernail clippers...
Similarities:
1. They are both used for cleaning.
2. They both have to be held in a person's hand while they are being used.
3. They both can be used for animals too.
4. They both are kind of long and skinny.
5. They both probably wouldn't like their jobs if they actually knew what they were doing. : )
Differences:
1. Fingernail clippers have to be squeezed; toothbrushes have to be pushed.
2. People usually use toothbrushes 2-3 times a day, and fingernail clippers only every once in a while

A CD is in your house, a snowman is outside.
You burn a CD, you melt a snowman.
A CD doesn't have a face, a snowman does.
