Live and Learn

(Thanks for the poem, Catherine : )

Okay, here's an easier one, guys.

Rack your brains (just a little, you don't have to write any poetry today) and tell us about a purchase you made that you'd love to go back and undo. In other words, WHY IN THE WORLD DID YOU BUY IT???

I could probably tell you about at least one per week, but if you can, take one from the past year. Or if you need to, you can use any year at all. Just tell us about it.....
It can be a car, a pair of boots, or maybe a candy bar. You name it.

And if you want, you can tell us what you'd do with that money if you - sigh - had it back.

Donna says she was your inspiration for this assignment. Could that be true?

Oh, she probably helped, but I inspired myself pretty well here : )

Okay, you guys obviously need for someone else to go first : )
Here is just one of mine: I bought some wheat germ several years ago because I believed all the health-conscious people who said it was so wonderful. Well, I don't know what to do with it, I don't like it and it just sits there taking up room in my fridge. I guess I must not have given up on the idea since it's still there, but I should probably throw it out. I just might... today.

We also bought three cute plastic sleds a couple of winters ago..... but hopefully that purchase will be justified today. Hopefully.

Several months ago I bought some shoes that reminded me of Cinderella's glass slippers. They're really pretty, but I hardly ever wear them because they're not very comfortable. The heels are a little higher than I like, my feet always slip through the straps, and the shoes leave glitter wherever I go.

But they leave glitter so Prince Charming can follow your trail and find you....

I spend way too much money on cookies, and I think Hannah and Caitlin will agree with me here. But there's always a first time, so I think I'll start cutting back and using the money more wisely. :) (Caitlin, this means you restrain me if I even mention buying a cookie!!!)

I bought a mouth harp like Snoopy's. I learned soon after buying it that it's "atonal" so it doesn't really make notes. And really, it doesn't even sound very cool. So it's been on my desk for a few weeks.

I remember Snoopy played one....Hey, is that also what they used to make the grown-ups' voices? They were some pretty twangy-sounding people, if I remember right.

I don't think so. Could be.

Hi Blog Marm! We are fairly new to your site and to our creative writing endeavors. I just want to say a big THANK YOU for doing this for those of us who really need the encouragment to write! We love your assignments and we look forward to doing more and more. We just recently posted some "Happy Home Recipes" and a couple "Ryhme Time" poems. Also, you're in good company with your wheat germ. I could have written exactly what you did about such a purchase. I look at my jar that just sits there everyday on my refigerator shelf and think I really need to just throw it out, as even if I liked it, it is so old, I would probably be afraid to use it NOW! Although, I could write plenty of these essays about many other purchases too:(

Thanks again!

It is lovely to meet you all and to have you join us! Thanks so much for contributing, and for letting us know about the great essays you all wrote on the previous posts. Quadruplets, and one older?? You are blessed!
Looking forward to hearing more from you! (And I'll toss my wheat germ if you will : )

I bought a video a little while back called "Tim." It's an early Mel Gibson movie where he portrays a young man with below average intelligence who befriends a lady for whom he does yard work. I bought it for the title, of course, not really expecting it to be any good. However, when I stuck it in the VCR, I found out that the video itself was recorded at a very low quality. I didn't get through more than ten minutes of it because it was so painful to watch. Apart from poor picture quality, you had to turn it way up to hear the dialogue at all, and that of course comes along with a lovely buzz.
So, I now have a pretty worthless video sitting among my other videos and DVDs simply because it's kinda cool-looking. I bought it from a used bookstore, and it only cost a dollar, but I now wish I had used the dollar to buy a king-size Snickers.

Man, now we're seriously craving a king-size Snickers!
